Vocal Health - a Note from our Music Director

Just a quick note to parents and cast members -  this is prime season for colds and flu. The coughing and irritation that can follow can cause scratchy, tired or even lost voices.

Several cast members have mentioned being vocally tired so this is a real concern. We are quickly approaching opening night - please consider the following steps to reduce the chance of vocal fatigue.

  1. Get lots of rest
  2. Drink lots of water
  3. Avoid caffeine when possible – it dries the vocal cords. Herbal tea with lemon or honey are good alternatives.
  4. Silence is golden! Every time you hum, talk, whisper or sing you are using your vocal cords.
  5. Try not to clear your throat – that is basically slapping your vocal cords together.
  6. If you are not feeling well use a vaporizer at night – cold mist is better than hot mist.
  7. Avoid loud environments. If you go to a sports event or concert try not to scream and yell – it wears on your voice very quickly.
  8. For dry throats use lozenges to help provide moisture.

Finally if you do have a sore or tired throat please let myself or Nicole know before rehearsal begins.

Thank you!

Wrangling - Next Week (2/1) through Tech

Starting next week (2/1) and through to performances, we'll be assigning wrangling spots for rehearsals.  We'll start with the costume crew in early Feb to free them up for costume rehearsals later on.

If there is any date that you cannot wrangle, please contact Sarah Hasenstab at shasenstab@hotmail.com so she can avoid scheduling you during a conflict.  Once scheduled it will be your responsibility to find a replacement.

Rehearsal Adjustments (Jan 7th & 13th)

There are two adjustments to the rehearsal schedule.

On Wednesday, January 7th, we had a cut/paste gone awry and more characters were called than are actually needed for scene 7.  Grimsby was accidentally left off the list for The Contest.

On Tuesday, January 13th, after seeing the choreography for Under the Sea the plan for that song changed and we'd like additional characters at rehearsal.  Mersisters with a VB game are are ok to miss the 6:30 Under the Sea rehearsal.

Tentacle Parents - please note that on Thursday, January 8th your actors are called from 7:30-8:30pm.  Please let us know if this poses any problems for our younger cast members.

K-4 Parents - As we get closer to the show, particularly when we start running entire acts or the entire show (Feb 10-19), if your actors are able to stay until 8:30 we'd be happy to have them.  We will still dismiss at 7:30 until Performance Week for those needing an earlier end time.
